Voice guides that writers actually open mid-sprint
By Cleo Hart

Most voice guides fail because they read like brand manifestos instead of decision tools. Writers do not have time for philosophy when a release branch merges in hours.
Structure guidance as paired examples: “Say this / Not this” with a one-sentence reason tied to customer confusion we have actually observed. Limit each card to one decision so writers can scan quickly.
Embed voice cards directly into the PR template for copy changes. When guidance lives beside the diff, reviewers can cite a specific card instead of debating taste.
Refresh examples quarterly with snippets from real launches—not generic placeholders. Fresh examples signal that the guide evolves with the product and deserves a bookmark.
